Bach's masterpiece, the Mass in B minor was assembled by adapting some of his own favourite movements from his rich catalog of church cantatas. Before he undertook that great project, however, he practiced his parody technique by assembling four shorter Lutheran Masses in a similar fashion.
The 2019 Festival closing concert features two of these Latin gems, the joyful Mass in F major with its brilliant horn parts, and the sublime Mass in G major, together with the seldom-performed Sanctus in D major.
