BASS

Martin Gomes (he/they) is a writer born & based in downtown Toronto. He is a multi-hyphenate artist having a career that's seen big stages, small stages, the big screen, small screen, poetry and polyphony, his main practice is storytelling. Whether it's touring across Canada & the US with various groups like The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, Opus 8, Warframe, The Soul of Motown, and more; performing spoken word poetry at events and places such as When Brother's Speak, Nuit Blanche, Ottawa's Riverbed Poetry Series, or in Cascais, Portugal; having his poetry appear in The Gardiner Museum, Cliffside Village Bookstore, and the TTC; Martin's main goal is to experience all there is in this lovely little life. Martin takes part in various local non-profit organizations that give underprivileged youth access to experiences they otherwise may not be granted the gift of getting. Organizations such as JAYU, Unity Charity, Lakeshore Arts, VIBEarts, Thrive Youth, and more. As a facilitator, Martin uses poetry and/or beatboxing to get youth to engage with their self-expression. Martin is the city mouse that truly never stops. However, if you ever wish to get a hold of him, you could probably find him at his local Second Cup.
