John Brownell

John has performed with the Toronto Symphony, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and has been a soloist with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed and recorded with many ensembles including Sound Pressure, the Talisker Players and the Hannaford Street Silver Band. He is a long-time member of the Toronto Percussion Ensemble. 

John has a PhD in ethnomusicology and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at several universities in Ontario. He recently retired from his position as an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Toronto.
