A message from Artistic Director John Abberger

EMILY DING

Five years of the Toronto Bach Festival is a milestone worth celebrating!

This year, we journey from the intimacy of works for solo violin to one of Bach’s grandest works: the Mass in B minor. Rare cantatas, concertos, and masterful organ works are also featured in this special anniversary season.

For an international spark to the season, we’ve invited the eminent British performer and Bach scholar John Butt to direct the Mass, perform for us on
the organ, and deliver the annual Bach Lecture — all events you won’t want to miss.

Lending more great artistry to the occasion, Tafelmusik Music Director and violinista straordinaria Elisa Citterio will perform in the 300th anniversary presentation of the iconic Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, joined by Tafelmusik violinist Patricia Ahern, and our own charismatic mainstay, Julia Wedman.

We are also pleased to introduce pre-concert chats this year, presented by writer and broadcaster Rick Phillips.

Heartfelt thanks to our sponsors and donors, whose generosity continues to make this Festival possible. And I want to thank all of you who share our love
of Bach’s music, and are attending in ever greater numbers. We look forward to welcoming you back for more stunning performances of this unequaled music.

Join us this year on a Festival Pass to enjoy all we have to offer at the lowest possible price. As we never tire of saying, “We’ve got your Bach,” and we thank you for having ours!

Sincerely,

John Abberger

Artistic Director
